Police have arrested a man accused of running a home improvement scam near Newark and are now looking for other possible victims.

The investigation began Feb. 28 after a resident of the Maple Square Mobile Home Park on West Chestnut Hill Road reported being scammed by an HVAC contractor, according to Grigori Lopez-Garcia, a spokesman for the New Castle County Police Department.

On Feb. 12, the victim wrote a $5,500 check to Integrity HVAC Solutions, a company run by Phuong Nguyen, to replace her heating and air conditioning unit, Lopez-Garcia said. A few days later, Nguyen told the victim the check had been destroyed and he needed another one.

The victim gave him two more checks totaling $10,000 but later discovered that all three checks had been cashed.

Nguyen never did the work, not did he refund any of the $15,500, Lopez-Garcia said.

On March 11, police arrested Nguyen and charged him with felony home improvement fraud. He was released on his own recognizance.

Lopez-Garcia recommended that anyone else who believes they may be a victim of fraud by Nguyen should contact Master Cpl. Tracey Duffy at 302-395-8172 or [email protected] or call the New Castle County Police non-emergency number at 302-573-2800. In addition to Integrity HVAC Solutions, Nguyen also does business as Wing HVAC, LLC.
