Remodeling upturn expected to carry into 2022

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Growth in improvement and repair expenditures to owner-occupied homes is expected to remain solid throughout the year and into 2022, according to the Leading Indicator of Remodeling Activity (LIRA) released today by the Remodeling Futures Program at the Joint Center for Housing Studies of Harvard University. The LIRA projects a healthy pace of mid-single digit gains in annual home renovation and repair spending this year, with 4.8 percent growth by the first quarter of next year.

Alleged Maine Home Improvement Scammer Indicted

Malcolm Stewart, the man who operated a business called Castle Builders out of Union Maine was indicted last month for theft by deception and an arrest warrant was issued with bail set at $50,000 cash.

The allegations according to a press release by the Maine Attorney Generals office include 57 construction projects Stewart agreed to complete that totaled approximately $400,000 that the Maine Attorney Generals office said he knew he would not be able to complete.
